Are VR measurements as accurate as CT planning software for TAVI?

7 studies in the library address this question.

Short answer

In several validation studies, VR measurements agreed closely with standard CT software. Valve-sizing measurements showed no significant differences and strong correlations (Kanschik 2024, Kanschik 2025), and a 50-patient study found excellent agreement for annulus measurements and better concordance with the implanted valve (Carabetta 2025). In left atrial appendage sizing, physicians also rated 3D orientation higher in VR (Heidari 2023). Most of these are single-center feasibility or validation studies.

Reliability of Immersive Virtual Reality for Pre-Procedural Planning for TAVI: A CT-Based Validation #

Carabetta N et al. · Journal of cardiovascular development and disease · 2025

Adult cardiac & structural heart · Validation study · n: 50 patients

Positive finding
“The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) confirmed excellent consistency for annular measurements (ICC = 0.93), while the concordance correlation coefficient indicated very good overall agreement (CCC = 0.83, 95% CI 0.73-0.90).”

ICC = 0.93
